Provide tools to split, combine, and copy SBM Component's at the database level Hot

by Garry Womack on August 25, 2015

As a customer's database needs change, it is common to have a need to copy database components such as the Application Engine or Application Repository tables from one database/schema to another and even to copy from one rdbms to another (such as SQL Server to Oracle). It would be useful to have a built in way (possibly in Configurator) to achieve this reorganization.

  • The System Administrator provides a copy database wizard to assist with this specific use case. However, there is not a similar wizard for the other components (Orchestration Engine, Common Log, and Application Repository.) Additionally, there is no easy way to remove obects from the source after the copy. For example, if all components are in one database, and then you copy the Application Engine tables to aother database, you would then want to delete the old copy after verifying that the move was succesful.

Currently, you can only come close to spliting out objects through the tool if you are willing to recreate them from scratch (as JBoss/Tomcat will create the missing objects and operations like Getting process app from AE and redeploying will begin repopulating them.

This all gets more complicated when SBM solutions with database objects are involved and is also complicated by the fact that some objects can be shared between Components due to having the same name.
