Multiple Composer Instances Hot

by Curtis LaPrise on October 26, 2015

It would be very useful to be able to have two instances of Composer running at once with different Process Apps checked out.

  • As a relatively new designer for Process Apps, it's helpful to reference existing or different Process Apps when designing.  Today I have to find one that has the element's I'm looking to inspect.  Capture a screenshot with the relevant information, then close the Process App and reopen the one I was working on.

This is highly inefficient as I'm not able to effectively compare dissimilar items or use an instance of Composer as a reference.

  • Hi Franz and Curtis, we've implemented this and it will be available in the next minor release of SBM. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sometimes it would be really helpful to be able to open 2 different process apps in edit mode.
For Example: if one process app posts items into another process app and you have to edit fields/workflows/actions in both appications.

we also would find this useful.
We currently use the following workaround though: if you run the composer as a different user on the same machine (shift + right click, run as different user)

Hi Curtis, This is a reasonable request. Currently, we specifically prevent a second instance from running because of problems that could occur when the same process app is open in both instances. From the description, it sounds like your needs would be met if the second instance only permitted process apps to be opened read-only.

As a workaround, you could temporarily reference the PA you want to view. You could then expand the reference and open (in a separate tab) the design element you're interested in.

In the mean time, we'll look into what it would take to directly solve the problem.

    Thanks, Tom
