Migrate user Favorites from the legacy UI to Work Center Hot

by Steve Dieckbrader on May 08, 2015

Implement user Favorites in Work Center. This well-used legacy feature seems oddly missing.

  • Work Center allows you to create multiple views, and 'star' items (e.g. Reports) in a single list. But we have a number of users, myself included, who have created a rather elaborate hierarchy of favorites folders to organize reports by function, even within a single application. Has there been an discussion around this when moving to Work Center? One possible approach: In Manage Views, there is a blue plus sign icon next to Dashboard to create a new one. Add a folder icon next to Reports (and while you're at it, Dashboards, Activities, and Calendars as well, though it seems less likely users will create dozens of those). Clicking this icon opens a small dialog allowing you to name the new folder. Then, drag and drop, as expected, to organize items. The first, obvious challenge will be the width of the 'Menu item order' panel. I may have to be resizable to accommodate a hierarchy.

There has been discussion around the best way to address the desire for a business function equivalent to folders in User Workspace, yes. The request is not only around folders for personal organization, but also the ability to share favorites or commonly needed items / links / reports with others. Once we determine the best way to implement this functionality, your suggestion of migrating the existing structure to the new is certainly worth considering. We will put this idea Under Consideration for the 1HCY'16 release of SBM.
