Make the Process App Version Label Available Programatically Hot

by Michael Robert Kokoski on April 10, 2016

The Process App Label identifies the version of the Process App currently in use in SBM. Since this latel asks as a version, it would be useful to have this information available programitically available from within the Process App. This way it can be used for documentation purposes within the Process App and Process App records themselves.

  • SBM Process Apps are necessarily processes themselves. These processes evolve over time and are versioned within the composer and application repository. It is not possible (at least not easily) to capture and use this version label within the process itself. This ability would be useful not only to support users in multiple environments possibly using different version of the same Process App, but also to be able to document the process version itself in the records produced within the process. This makes it easier to explain to an auditor why certain records in the system have different field values than others as a function of the change to the process.

The Process App version label can/should be available to use in several of the following forms:

    • As a function in AppScript so that it can be used in scripting
    • As a javascript variable or form widget so that it can be displayed on a form
    • As field default value so that it could be easily incorporated into database records (This could also be done with an AppScript variable especially if you could make a field default be any AppScript function)

I know that no one has expressed support for this idea on this site, but is is absolutely a good idea. I am surprised that the SBM product team does not see value in it.
