Form Actions - Provide transition FromStateName and ToStateName context

  • It would be useful to create Form Actions (and JavaScripts) where the the FromStateName and ToStateName transition information is available. The closest Form Action condition option is "the current transition is or is not in the specified list of transitions." Specifying the destination state name is more useful since usually the number of states is almost always much smaller than the number of transitions. Also, a form action used by the Update transition will work based on where in the workflow it's invoked.

The only possible workaround to get this information would be to assign a pre-transition script as described in S140146. This would have to be manually assigned to EVERY transition in the workflow. Also, it will not work for Update transitions since they cannot be assigned AppScripts. This workaround is not user friendly for Form Actions since the results cannot be easily tied to the actual State field drop-down selections.

We don't need the previous state added to form actions since we already have it because the State field should be set to the previous state. The NEXT state is the important information we don't currently have.

The HTML form page has embedded in it the Transition ID that JavaScript can use. The form should also include the previous and next state IDs since state names can be duplicated throughout the workflow.

Whatever the current and next states are at the time the transition is executed should be available in the form actions and JavaScript. The next state should also work when the transition begins and ends to the same state. Same for transitions like the Update transition on the ANY state.
