For Fields, "Where Used" should search Workflow and Transition over-rides and AppScripts Hot

by Paul Thompson on November 12, 2015

When doing a "Where Used" on a Field, Composer should include where the field is over-ridden in Workflows and Transitions.  It would also be nice if Composer could perform a cursory search in AppScripts for the field's name, dbname or UUID.

  • When using the "Where Used" results to determine if a field is being referenced, the list doesn't include any where the field is over-ridden.

Use Case: I'm trying to determine if a field is unused by a specific Workflow.  If it is not, I can move the field to the "NOT USED" section.  I would like "Where Used" to tell me everywhere the field is referenced.

When doing a "Where Used" on a Field, Composer should include where the field is over-ridden in Workflows and Transitions and where the field is mentioned in AppScripts.  I understand the challenges with find a reference to a field in an AppScript.  It would be nice if Composer could perform a cursory search in AppScripts for the field's name, dbname or UUID.  This may return false positives and miss any cases where the developer was being tricky.  If the developer includes a list of fields used by the AppScript in a comment, then the "Where Used" would find it.

    Re-targeting for 1HCY'18

We'll put this under consideration for the 2HCY'16 release.

I second Vickie's comment, searching any "Execute Javascript" actions or "Javascript evaluates to true" conditions using both the field's DB name and current Display Name would be most helpful

I'd like to also see it search form and transition actions. Field references are hidden everywhere and they are so hard to find. I haven't checked (maybe it already does this), but is should also search rules and the new report filters.
