Expand Join Capability for Reports Hot

by Lynn Mattie on May 13, 2015

The join capability availabe for Listing reports should be expanded.

  • The ability to join through relational fields and filter the results based on the join for Listing reports is awesome. This should be expanded to allow sorting through the join. Also, the joining capability is needed for other type or reports, especially distribution reports.

    Ideas

    Target Release
    SBM 11.0.1

  • The abilities to sort joined columns and to enable joins in distributed reports are minor enhancements to the feature now delivered in SBM 11.0. We're tentatively expecting to finish up this request and add these abilities to a maintenance release to SBM 11.0 (likely numbered SBM 11.0.1) in mid Q1CY'16. I'll leave this as "under consideration" since the request wasn't completely fulfilled but be aware that we did deliver the Advanced reporting from my original comment with the release of SBM 11.0.

These capabilities are expected to be expanded in the next major release of SBM, but the target user is the admin or developer. We're currently referring to this as "Custom Designed Reporting" but the name may change prior to release. Basically, we received feedback from the community that admins/designers want us to "get out of the way" and let them use their SQL skills to create powerful reports for their users. This would include the ability to more broadly take advantage of the native abilities of the database like joins.

There is a reporting Special Interest Group here on Serena Central where we're talking about this and other related reporting topics, so if you're not yet signed up for that group, I'd encourage you to participate and shape features like this!

That sounds good, but it still wouldn't hurt to allow the joins for sorting, simple queries, and distribution reports so that all users who can create reports can use that capability.

And join to certain system tables, like the SLA tables.
