Apply Settings in Configuration without immediately restarting services Hot

by David Berner on November 16, 2015

SBM Configurator forces you currently to stop all services to apply any setting. It would be great to have an option to apply the new settings on the next restart. This would enable us to modify certain parameters during office hours, but have the service restart during the night automatically to apply the changes.

  • Most of the changes in the configurator interface should not require an immediate restart of the services. For example modifying performance options or adjusting mail or notification parameters. Since we are not allowed to restart production services during office hours, whenever we would like to make changes to any of these parameters, we have to have someone intervene during the weekend or in the middle of the night. Currently you can workaround it if you know where the actual configuration file containing the specific settings sits. You can edit it directly and simply wait for the next reboot. This seems to defeat the whole purpose of having an easy to use UI for managing general purpose configurations. Having the options "apply" and "apply and restart", should be able to simplify this type of scenario.
