Does anyone know of anyway to include the Item Type prefix in the string builder. I know that you can have the item type and you can have the item id, but I am trying to find some way of displaying the "issue id" as it is displayed in the item identifier (eg, DEF12345)

Thanks in advance.

    Hi David,

    I don't know what you mean by "String Builder". Are you refering to SBM JS API or Appscript? I am not aware of any place where it should be a problem to retrieve the Issue Id of an item.

    Appscript:
    on a varRecord use GetDisplayIssueId()

    SBM JS API:
    GetFieldValue("ISSUEID");

    Cheers

    Thanks for the reply Brian. I was referring to the sting builder in SBM Composer where you can setup a text field to display field values, etc from the issue.

    In the string builder it has "Item ID" but this is just the numeric part of the full(?) issue number (ie, item type prefix and item ID). If I use "Item ID" in the string builder it displays as "12345", but what I want to show is "DEF12345" (to include the item type prefix).

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks,
    Dave

      Hi David,

      you're right. I couldn't believe it, but yes, this seems to be a missing piece in Composer.
      It is worth an enhancement. You'll have my vote!

      Cheers

    While waiting for a better solution - or preferably this to be an out of the box function in Composer, I have achieved the desired result by:

    • Adding a text field to the form (called "ItemPrefix")
    • Added an action to the form that is triggered when the form is loaded to set the ItemPrefix field based on the Item Type (eg, if Item Type is in 'Defect' set ItemPrefix to 'DEF', etc, etc
    • Within a panel I have one column right aligned that includes the "ItemPrefix" text field and in the adjacent column - which is left aligned - I have a second text field which includes the ItemID and Title
